The Rich History of Ice Cream

Ice cream is a treat enjoyed by millions worldwide, but its origins trace back thousands of years. The story of ice cream is as rich and diverse as its flavors, spanning cultures and continents.

Ancient Roots of Frozen Desserts

The earliest versions of frozen desserts are believed to have originated in ancient China around 200 BCE. Royal families enjoyed sweetened, flavored snow and ice. In Persia, frozen desserts were crafted using ice from the mountains mixed with fruit juices and syrups—a method resembling our own Kothi-based technique.

Evolution of Ice Cream in Europe

By the 17th century, European innovators developed cream-based frozen treats. Ice cream quickly became a symbol of luxury and indulgence, served at royal banquets and aristocratic gatherings.

The Emergence of Kulfi in India

In India, traditional ice cream—locally known as Kulfi—emerged as a beloved dessert, made by slow-cooking milk and freezing it in moulds. Our Kothi-based approach is inspired by these age-old techniques, combining hand-churning with the finest natural ingredients to deliver a taste that is both nostalgic and innovative.

At Yogi Kothiwala, we honour this rich history by keeping the ancient art of ice cream making alive. Every scoop is a tribute to the time when ice cream was not just a dessert but a handcrafted labor of love.
